Pray for children who live in war-torn or landmine-infested countries
-- The suggested weekly prayer from the
Conference Committee on Children and Poverty

Jeremiah Wright's Prophecy

Dr. Jeremiah Wright, the pastor of presidential chandidate Barack Obama, is entangled over what is appropriate worship. People are asking, "How could a minister say 'God damn America' instead of 'God bless America'?" Most prophets of the Old Testament were patriotic to the core about Israel, yet said that the people were chosen not for special privilege, but for special responsibility. And they had blown it! And God was damning their nation as a result. Near as I can tell, Dr. Wright is preaching just as a prophet would preach if he were here.

We are still in the Easter season. If Easter is real, it happens to us now and not just back in the First Century. The Empty Tomb doesn't mean much without the full heart. And the overflowing heart leads to action. Being the Easter People means we have to do something with the New Life we are given. The church is here to help!

We gather on Sunday mornings as the Easter people -- to be a support group for our individual, as well as corporate, ministries. The worship service gives us a boost; we give each other a "kick" to keep us going.

Perhaps Dr. Wright is controversial because none of us likes a "kick."
